World Heritage location · Walk everywhere
Our boarding house on Franz-Ludwig-Straße sits so centrally that the Old Town Hall is 5 min, Little Venice 7 min, the Sand district 10 min and the cathedral 12 min on foot. No car needed, no long walk to the first brewery. Booking direct saves 7 % with code DIRECT7.

Bamberg's old town is one of Europe's largest intact medieval ensembles and a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993. With us you stay right inside it.
Maxplatz (2 min), Old Town Hall (5 min), Little Venice (7 min), Sandstraße (10 min), Cathedral (12 min) – all the city's highlights within walking distance of Franz-Ludwig-Straße. No car, no bus.
Our houses sit in side streets, so you sleep in peace – but step outside in the morning and you're in the middle of it all.
Bamberg is one of the few large German cities that survived the Second World War almost intact. The result: a fully preserved medieval old-town ensemble with half-timbered houses, baroque palaces, monasteries and the famous island location between two arms of the Regnitz river. The area has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1993 – and it's far more compact than people expect: you can walk around the main sights in 30 minutes.
That's exactly what makes staying with us so pleasant: you're not 'near' Bamberg, you're truly in the core. Breakfast at Café Müller on Maxplatz, then stroll down Sandstraße, mid-morning past the Little Venice houses by the water, afternoon up to the cathedral and rose garden, evening for a Stein at the Spezial-Keller brewery garden. All without ever needing a tram or a car.
Old Town Hall on the bridge: 5 minutes on foot from Franz-Ludwig-Straße, 15 from Trimbergstraße. The iconic painted building in the middle of the Regnitz is one of Germany's most photographed views.
Bamberg Cathedral: 12 minutes on foot from Franz-Ludwig-Straße, 20 from Trimbergstraße – slightly uphill. The Romanesque-Gothic cathedral houses the famous Bamberg Horseman and the tombs of Emperor Henry II and Pope Clement II.
Little Venice: 7 minutes on foot from Franz-Ludwig-Straße, 15 from Trimbergstraße. The former fishermen's houses along the right Regnitz arm look spectacular in morning mist or golden-hour evening light.
Sandstraße: 10 minutes on foot from Franz-Ludwig-Straße, 15 from Trimbergstraße. The historic brewery and pub street with Schlenkerla and friends – the beating heart of Bamberg's beer culture.
May to September is high season with longer days and the full programme of outdoor events (Sandkerwa late August!). For a quieter trip and lower prices, come between early November and mid-December (before the Christmas market) or in February / March. The city is calmer, the breweries have space, and accommodation is markedly cheaper.
From our boarding house at Franz-Ludwig-Straße it's 5 minutes on foot, from the holiday apartment TB 5 at Trimbergstraße about 15. Easy walks in both cases.
No, quite the opposite – the old town is pedestrianised, parking is scarce and expensive. If you drive here, park in one of the public car parks at the edge of the old town and walk in.
Summer and Sandkerwa weekends fill up early. We recommend booking at least 2-3 months ahead. Direct bookings through our site often have availability a bit longer than on the big platforms.
Plenty of options. Café Müller on Maxplatz, Café Abseits, Hofmanns – all 5–10 minutes on foot. We're happy to share our favourites at check-in.
Absolutely. The Christmas market on Maxplatz is small but atmospheric. In January and February you basically have the old town to yourself – and accommodation prices are noticeably lower.
